Steshenko Y. Ultrasonic detector based on a smartphone

The purpose of this diploma project is to develop an ultrasonic system of non- destructive testing, which uses the advanced functions of a smartphone to increase the capabilities of the system and reduce hardware costs.

The first section discusses ultrasonic waves and their characteristics, ultrasonic control, piezoelectric transducers, ultrasonic control methods and sensors. In the second section of this dissertation, a piezoelectric transducer is selected and calculated for the best performance. The overall dimensions of the piezoelectric transducer components have been determined. It also talks about wireless data transmission technologies.

In the design and technological section the design of the piezo-sensor is developed, its drawing is created according to the dimensions of the device elements calculated earlier. Based on the existing analogues of the flaw detector, a functional and schematic diagram of the device is made. The electric basic scheme is developed and the calculation of the main knots in an electric circuit is carried out. The calculation of shock excitation and amplifier is performed. ADC, DAC and microcontroller are selected. The last section calculates the probability of control. The error due to quantization, the error of operational amplifiers and the assessment of controllability are calculated.
